Feeling a little stressed?
Guess what? Your gut feels it, too! When we encounter a stressful situation our breathing tends to become shallow while our body moves into “fight or flight” mode, transferring blood away from our digestive tract to our large muscles to prepare for whatever threat we perceive we are facing. This interferes with digestion. Mindfully focusing and taking slow, deep breaths helps calm the mind and body (and the digestive tract.)
